22177
letter from the War Office to the Colonial Office, dated
the 20th December, 1894, Hong Kong 2/4690. The pro-
gramme of Works, which was given therein, will be carried
out in accordance with the agreement, which has been
made with the Colonial Government.
4.
I am to observe that there is no intention of
removing the Barracks from their present position at
Victoria to the hills. Such a move would be attended
with very considerable cost and the advantages gained
would not be sufficiently great to justify the expense
which would be involved.
5.
It does not appear desirable, now
that a
programme of Works has been agreed upon with the Colonial
Government, who are to pay one third of the total expend-
iture, to make any further alterations with regard to it,
at present.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
